Some feel it was developed in the Middle East but it occurs throughout the world in various forms. (India, China, Germany, Iran, Iraq and the British Isles.) It is used frequently for Celtic music but is also a wonderful instrument for classical music. It is played by striking the strings with small hammers. The sound is sometimes likened to a harpsichord or steel strung harp. PEDAL HARP is the harp you see in an orchestra where the CELTIC HARP is a smaller version, easier to transport and with a brighter, less classical sound.
