Upon arrival the spring rockers on the covered porch invite you to sit down, relax and adapt your pace to the quiet mountain setting. The exterior is made of local fieldstone. The same stone mason that did many of the buildings at the John C. Campbell Folk School (a local landmark) set the stone for the cottage. Fieldstone was also used for the gas log fireplace that adds romantic charm to the interior, which is decorated in a ?cottage? style. Mountain Laurel Cottage was built in 1951 and was completely renovated in 2001. As many of the original fixtures and woodwork as possible were retained. The cottage has 500 square feet of floor space with an elevated natural white pine ceiling, stained pine walls and hardwood floors. The cottage accommodates two people. It is a cozy and charming hide-a-way in the woods. In the spring the mountain laurels surrounding the cottage bloom with profuse pink-to-white flowers.
