THE ARTISTS: Patricia Y. Travis, M.A., Robert P. Travis, Ph.D., Robert (Rob) P. Travis, III ABOUT THE ARTISTS: Both Robert and Patricia Travis hold graduate degrees in Psychology and were therapists for many years at the Medical School at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. They published in professional journals and in popular magazines including Cosmopolitan. Their book, Vitalizing Intimacy in Marriage, was published in 1979. In 1980, Robert?s interest in slumping a Tiffany lampshade started them on a journey they will always cherish. They developed their own style and technique of kiln fired fused glass.

After early retirement from academic endeavors in 1987, they moved to the weekend getaway log home they built in 1979 in the mountains of Western North Carolina. They expanded the home to take advantage of the sunsets, sunrises, and glorious mountain views; and, at the same time, constructed their fused glass studio atop their mountain. SURROUNDED by birds, wildflowers, and mountain streams, this way of life leaves them time to build trails, grow wildflowers from seed, write fiction and poetry, and spend quiet moments together enjoying nature and life in general. The wildflowers and wildlife provide them with the subject matter for many of their designs. Robert?s son, Robert (Rob) P. Travis, III joined The Glass Feather Studio in the summer of 2001. His artistic talents and his love of nature lend themselves well to the Studio?s creations.

THE TRAVIS COLLECTION of kiln fired fused glass has been sold in museums, galleries, gift shops and private collections throughout the United States and in other countries and in many catalogs including the Smithsonian.
