Folded Wood V

17"X 22"X 5"; Walnut (sapwood); This is the fifth piece in my "Folded Wood" series. Some people assume the "Folded Wood" sculptures are formed by steam-bending; they are in fact carved and sanded to shape. I begin the process by creating a dozen or more small felt models. I select the most pleasing form, measure it and transfer the design to a block of wood which I have laminated. I proceed with chain saw, grinders, rasps, and sanders to shape it, then I spend many hours hand-sanding and finishing to get the final magical result.
