We are a family run manufacturer located in the beautiful mountains of
Western North Carolina. Our growth over the years has been remarkable and mostly by word
of mouth. Our products are built from the best quality wood available and assembled with
all-weather screws. They are built to last for many seasons.
We are proud to be the first manufacturer of Birding and Nature products to be
independently certified and able to offer certified wood products. Certified wood is
actually wood that has been harvested from a well managed forest. This designation is only
assigned after an independant certification firm evaluates the forest management practices
and can verify that they adhere to the standards established by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). These
standards focus on three main areas - sustainability of the timber resource, maintenance
of the forest ecosystem, and the socio-economic benefits provided to the local and
regional community.
The Forest Stewardship Council establishes the standards and independant
organizations such as the Scientific
Certification System (SCS) handle the actual evaluation. An important issue is the
"chain of custody" of the wood which insures that the wood being claimed as
certified truly comes from a certified forest. Each step of the way from stump to
store must be evaluated and recieve it's own certification to insure that the wood is not
intermingled with non-certified wood. A paper trail exists to track each piece of
wood! Each product claiming to be certified must bear the FSC logo and the manufacturers
registration number so that it may be verified as certified. Cosumers may be assured
of the source when seeing these logos:

Like many valuable programs in their early stages, public recognition and
demand are not yet strong so products are not readily available. But like recycling,
awareness will be growing and consumers will lead the way. The importance of the
preservation of the world's forests and the eco-systems they sustain can not be
overstated. The success of the Forest Stewardship Council's program will be insured by
conscientious educated consumers, like yourself, demanding products be made from certified
wood. |
